How tagging works
Pick a photo in the app. EyeSay sends a reduced-size copy (long edge 896 px, JPEG) of that photo to its inference server, which returns tags. Choose photos in My Categories. Choose This Batch selects the photos to work on; normal tagging reuses compatible saved results. Re-tag all analyzes the selected photos again and uses your photo allowance. On Ask, choose a photo and ask in English. AI answers and tags can be wrong; check them before relying on them.
What is sent, and what isn't
Sent: the downscaled photo copy described above; on the Ask tab, the question you typed; and, for a full-library tagging run, the words in your tag list, sent as text so the server can return a vector for each one to score photos against. Description and reference-photo search also send the necessary text or reduced image. Analysis does not upload or modify original files. Duplicate deletion is a separate confirmed action. No photo is uploaded until you agree to the in-app notice that appears before your first upload — see Privacy Policy for the full breakdown of what the server does with what it receives.
Tagging over Wi-Fi only
Tagging a large photo library can use a meaningful amount of mobile data. The My Categories tab has a Tag over Wi-Fi only switch, on by default. While it's on, a bulk tagging run won't start on a cellular connection, and if your device switches to cellular mid-run, the run stops on its own. Turn the switch off if you want tagging to work over cellular too; the screen tells you roughly how much data that photo may use over cellular data (about 200 KB per photo).
Deleting the albums EyeSay created
With your confirmation each time, EyeSay can write tagged photos
into albums it creates in your Photos library. Every album it makes is
named starting with ES · so you can always
tell which ones came from the app. To remove them, open
My Categories and use Undo Latest Albums.
Review the proposed changes and confirm. Undoing album creation keeps
the photos. Duplicate-photo deletion is separate: review the selected
copies carefully, as deletion also affects iCloud Photos when enabled.
You can also delete any of these albums the normal way, from the Photos app itself, one at a time.
Withdrawing consent
Stop an active tagging run before withdrawing upload consent.
To withdraw the agreement you gave earlier, open Settings → Privacy and Uploads and tap Stop Allowing Uploads. Requests already sent may finish; results saved on your device stay, and the notice is shown again before anything is sent next time. Sign-in tokens and the installation identifier are stored in the device Keychain and may survive app deletion. Sign out to clear the current account session.
Accounts and deleting your account
Signing in is optional: tagging and Ask work without an account, and an account is only needed for membership features. To delete your account, open Account & Membership and choose Delete Account; the app confirms your identity, then removes the account and its sessions, request and purchase records on the server. Photos and results on your device are unchanged. Deleting the account does not cancel an Apple subscription — manage that under iOS Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions. What is kept after deletion, and for how long, is listed in the Privacy Policy.
FAQ: Why is the service unavailable?
- The app says "The tagging service is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later."
- The app measures whether the inference server is actually ready and accepting requests before it lets you tag or ask — it never guesses. This message means that check has not currently passed. It usually clears on its own; if it doesn't, try again in a few minutes.
- Tagging works, but Ask says it's unavailable (or the other way around)
- Tagging and Ask are checked separately, because they can fail separately. If one works and the other doesn't, the app tells you so explicitly rather than reporting one combined status — that's expected, not a bug, and it should resolve when the failing endpoint recovers.
- My tagging run was interrupted
- Restore the network connection, use Try Again if shown, then Continue Tagging to resume a compatible saved batch. Keep the app open for the simplest test; continuous background work is not guaranteed. Automatic retries do not consume additional credits.
- Nothing happens when I try to tag or ask a question
- Check that you've agreed to the upload notice shown before the first tag or question — if you chose "Not now," tagging and Ask stay off until you agree. You can trigger that notice again by trying to tag or ask a question.
